It wasn’t hard to see that you were very, very pregnant. With every few hours resulting in you returning to the bed, or a chair, or wherever you could sit and not kill your ankles, you were probably bigger than the Hulk, at this point.

“And we’re down for round thirteen.” You sighed to yourself as you eased onto the couch, having mastered the ability to maneuver places without your husband. Loki had been particularly busy these last couple weeks, which was a bother considering it meant he barely made Christmas and his holiday break from SHIELD had ended sooner than expected.

Not that you were bitter, or anything.

Rubbing your swollen belly with a little affection, you switched on the TV. It was almost twelve in the afternoon, which meant you were twelve hours away from the new year. Considering the size of your baby bump (deemed baby mountain by Tony), you hoped there would be an extra addition or two to the family, very soon.

“Are you even capable of doing something productive like this?” Loki mused from the kitchen, enjoying his one and only day off so far. After convincing (most likely mind controlling), Tony to team up with Thor this time, he decided to spend it with you. “I don’t see how you can.”

“That’s why I don’t.” You replied with a sigh, leaning back on the couch to look at him over the top. “Are you gonna come over here and sit with me, or keep to yourself all day? You know, on your cheat day off?”

“Wouldn’t dream of it. I just enjoy watching your sitting technique. You’ve gotten it down to a science.” He snickered before joining you, sinking down on the cushions beside you and lying across it. Loki was eye-level with your growing children, running a hand over your stomach. “You know, when my mother was with child, she had at least four servants helping her move around at all times. That’s what she told me, anyways.”

“Aren’t you so glad I’m not as big of a hassle as her?” You responded with some sarcasm, “Though I wouldn’t mind having a couple of servants helping me operate. That would actually be pretty great.”

“I could always ‘convince’ Thor to help. I’m not sure if Stark will fall for the trick again, though.”

“Doubt it.” You giggled, “Though I don’t think I’ll need it. They’re due any day now, and I know they’re gonna be way more of hassle than I could ever be.”

“I’ve heard the stories of how horrible children are.” Loki agreed in a grim tone. You knew he’d been tentative about the pregnancy since day one. He’d expressed some excitement, but it was obvious fatherhood wasn’t something he really considered.

It had something to do with his pretty bloody past, and his lack of responsibility. He managed to be a decent husband, at least when he wanted to be. It took a little work before he was able to do everything for you that he needed to, so throwing in a set of twins was going to be a real challenge.

“You’ll be fine.” You assured him, running a hand through his hair. “I’m sure they’ll behave themselves, more or less, for you. Just think of all the fun you’re going to have together.”

“I can imagine it. Particularly once they’ve attained their powers. Then we’ll really be able to wreak some havoc on-”

“-No havoc-wreaking, young man.” You tapped his forehead. Loki looked up at you with a “you’re not serious, because I will find ways to do it if you are”, look. “I mean it. Some mischief here and there will be just fine, but if you start getting them in trouble with your dumb ideas, I am not going to be okay with you.”

“But-”

“No buts.” Again you tapped his head, and he grunted.

“You’re no fun.”

“So I’ve heard.”

“Children, you’d better be more like me than her. Otherwise this household is about to get twice as boring than it already is.”

“You wanna say that again to my face?” You grinned maliciously, a spark of explosive power already triggered in your hands. Loki was quick to redirect the conversation.

“I’m not sure it’s worth the risk.” He chuckled and leaned up, pressing a chaste kiss to your cheek before straightening up. You prepared a couple of reasons why he was right, when the doors opened and Vision walked in with Wanda trailing behind him, as usual.

“Good, you are both awake.” Vision greeted you both cordially, floating in front of the television to block whatever show you weren’t watching. “I’m not sure if you have heard, but Tony has announced a New Year’s party being held on the top floor, this evening. He wanted both of you to attend. I thought since you are...heavily with child, I should ask for you, first.”

“That’s very thoughtful of you, Vision.” You replied as sweet as you could as a woman with back pains. A party seemed fun, but considering your condition-

“Perhaps it’s better if you pass on this one.” Loki spoke up for you, “The twins are going to be due any day, now. I think it would do you well to avoid anything strenuous, like one of Stark’s over-the-top parties.”

“I zhought you vould say zhat.” Wanda spoke up, looking to you hopelessly. “I vanted to convince you to come, because zhere is no vay I’m going to zhat party alone. I need anozher voman zhere so I am not zhe only one. I vould ask Romanoff, but...I get zhe feeling she is not fan of me.”

“And you just assume that I am?” You quirked an eyebrow, though the suspicious tone dissolved with laughter. Wanda stuck to you like glue since she joined the team. There was no way you’d leave her high and dry.

Well...save for a nine-month-pregnant baby belly and swollen ankles.

“So you vill go?”

“I would love to, Wanda, but I don’t think I can make it. Besides, even if I wanted to Loki wouldn’t let me because of these.” You gestured to your belly. Wanda sighed, crouching down in front of you and glaring at your innocent twins.

“Zhis is your fault, you two. Don’t zhink I’m going to be good aunt to you for abandoning me at party. You owe me.”

“Just let the android go with you. You fancy him anyways, don’t you?” Loki mentioned with a lazy hum, and Wanda couldn’t have jumped up faster.

“I do not!”

“What does ‘fancy’ mean, in this context?” Vision’s brow furrowed. Wanda grabbed his arm and tugged him towards the elevator, ready to leave as suddenly as they came. “Wanda-”

“It doesn’t mean anything! Let’s leave!”

You stared after them when they disappeared, unable to stop the chuckle that left you. “See what you did? You almost ruined a perfectly fine relationship.”

“A human experiment and sentient android do not equate to a ‘perfectly fine relationship’, in any situation.” Loki sighed, putting his arm around your shoulders and pretending to watch the show.

“And a frost giant demigod with a literally explosive human does?”

“I will make you go to that party.” He threatened you, and you snickered.

“Sure you will.”

~*~

Loki did not actually bring you to the party. Rather, Thor had Loki come with him as payback for mind-controlling him into doing his mission. While he wasn’t entirely fond of the idea, you convinced him to go because it would be fun for him to try a New Year’s party, and of course, since you owed Tony.

“I still do not know how you managed to control him. The Mind Stone is firmly planted in the Vision’s body. Surely you used some strange trick.” Thor laughed, personally amused that Loki had managed such a feat. His brother rolled his eyes, already done with the party he’d been stuck in for the last twenty minutes.

“There are many ways to conquer a weak mind, brother. Considering we’re talking about an alcoholic billionaire with nothing but equations wrapped in his skull, it wasn’t difficult.” Loki sighed and glanced around, searching for the quickest exit. “Is this really necessary? I should be taking care of (Name), at least. Not wasting time at an overexcited festival like this.”

“(Name) can handle herself for a couple hours, trust me. She could blow up buildings with her hands tied behind her back, giving birth in a shack downtown and she’d still be fine. Besides, you could always use a new experience. Try to enjoy your first New Year’s party, like everyone else. Go have some fun with those ladies, I’m sure they’d love to have you.”

“You realize I’m married to the most prone woman for explosions, yes?” Loki quirked an eyebrow, wondering why he bothered socializing with Tony Stark in the first place. “I’ve no need for your frivolous wenches.”

“I’ll be sure to tell them that. And they were so looking forward to meeting you, too.” Tony pouted, peering at him over his cheesily placed “2016” glasses. He clapped Loki’s shoulder before handing him a drink, “Try and have some fun. You’re about to get tied down to a couple of kids, God knows you won’t be able to do it much longer.”

“If this is what fun is I’ll gladly take my own children over it.” Loki grumbled to himself. Thor smiled at his brother, who despite the endless grumpiness, had changed for the better. He knew better than to say anything out loud, but he was legitimately proud of Loki for the drastic changes he’d made to himself. If not for him, for you.

It warmed the old thunder god’s heart, for certain.

“What are you looking at?” Loki snapped, catching Thor’s fond gaze. Said Avenger shrugged, looking away as he slipped Loki’s drink away and downing it himself.

“Nothing at all. This ‘alcohol’ drink is rather disgusting, isn’t it?”

Loki shook his head when his brother made a quick escape, abandoning him to the confines of the bar. He was more than happy to sit by himself, keeping away from the useless party. Romanoff had developed a habit of handling the bar, highlighted by playing barista for the sulky prince.

“Looks like you’re having a ball.” She purred, leaning on her hand. He hardly spared her a glance, scoffing instead and motioning at one of the bottles behind her.

“I’m sure it’d be much better if this weak excuse for drink actually worked. Toss me a bottle, would you?”

“You sure you should be drinking right now? I don’t think (Name) would want you putting that much into your system.”

“She’ll survive.” He huffed. Natasha handed him the bottle with a smirk, “She’s seen me drop an entire box of those petty beer cans without a single change.”

“I wish I could’ve seen it; Tony would be so jealous.” She grinned, imagining the possibilities. “Speaking of which, he’s about to get the Iron Man suit and fly out for the big ball drop down the block. Are you gonna go with him?”

“He already dragged me here against my will. There’s no way I’m going to submerge myself in a crowd of humans. Isn’t that supposed to be saved for midnight, anyway?”

“He likes to get a headstart. That way Pepper can’t stop him before he goes.” Tasha winked at him before taking a glass all her own and leaving the bar. “You should at least consider it. (Name) wouldn’t want you moping around all evening. Have a little fun before the kids come around.”

“Why does everyone keep saying that?” Loki muttered. Sure, kids were a hassle, but they couldn’t be that bad. Besides, if he was really bothered by him, he could just teleport out of there and take a breather. No big deal.

Or so he thought.

“Loki, there is a problem.” Vision strode up to him looking particularly vexed, earning a bored look from the currently drinking Loki.

“What?”

“I heard loud shrieks coming from your floor. I believe something is wrong with (Name).” He reported, Wanda coming up to him from behind with a tipsy grin.

“Vision! I vonder vhere you go. You vorry me vhen you hide, is so rude!”

“How can you hear her over all this noise and soundproof floors?”

“I am capable of picking up soundwaves normal people are not. I think you should consider finding (Name). The last thing I heard her say was ‘Way to go into labor while Loki’s at a party’.”

“She said labor?” Loki couldn’t have dropped the bottle faster. In an instant he disappeared, transporting from the party floor to his flat.

“Vhere did party pooper go? He vas just here, da?”

“I believe we should remove you from this atmosphere, Wanda. It is not safe for you to continue while you are intoxicated to this degree-”

“Kiss me, Red Man.”

“I beg your- HRMPH!”

~*~

“(Name)??” Loki called through the flat the moment his feet touched the floor. It wasn’t difficult to find you, as you were currently doubled over on the couch. He took a lucky guess you didn’t move after he hit the party, but that didn’t matter considering your situation.

“Thank the gods.” You breathed, voice thick with agitation. “The twins are coming.”

“Are you certain?” He lifted you up in his arms while asking, knowing better than to stand like a fool while you suffered. Instead he proceeded to teleport you to the hospital before you even got an answer in. “How far apart are the contractions?”

“Did you just- How are we in front of t-the hospital?”

“I teleported. Answer. Now.” He urged her on while striding into the place, heading for the nearest desk that he could get help.

“I-I don’t know. Maybe two minutes apart? It c-came up so fast, I didn’t realize until it- Ah!!”

“It’s fine. Just- Excuse me, mortal. Take my wife to the proper medical area. If I’m not mistaken she’s about to give birth.” Loki said as politely as he could to the obviously bored young woman, who literally wanted to be anywhere but here.

“I’ll call the doctors in. Please have a seat over there.”

“Have a seat?? She’s in labor, wench!”

“L-Loki, nice words.”

“She’s in labor, you sluggish twit!”

“...Eh, close enough.” You offered an apologetic smile to the girl, until a fresh wave of contractions hit. Your head tilted back and you groaned, gripping Loki’s shirt tightly in an attempt to withhold your screaming.

“I’m sorry sir. They’ll be here in a few seconds.” She informed you with her droll tone. “I’ll give you directions to the floor after she’s taken care of.”

“T-thanks!” You squeaked out. Sure enough, the doctors and nurses were ready to take you in before Loki could get another insult in.

He was reluctant to let you go, but did as you asked and let them put you on the gurney. Carting you gods knows where, Loki made sure to follow in case they did something stupid. They were lucky you made it to the room without his interference.

It was hard to describe what Loki was feeling, running alongside the gurney while you worked to suppress the pain. He was definitely scared, a touch excited, mildly annoyed the doctors weren’t moving fast enough, and somewhere, hidden in the swirl of emotions, he might have even been a little bit happy.

He was about to become a father. And you, a mother, to two very small, very innocent babies.

Despite that happiness, though, he felt something stronger than all those things; regret. His past actions seemed to hit him full force when they turned the corner.

How would they feel if they found out about his past? How would he feel if they hated him for it? What if he never told them? Yes, maybe that was the best option. He could brainwash the Avengers into thinking none of it happened, and then everything would be just fine.

“Y-you ready, Loki?” Your question brought Loki back to earth, if only for a moment. His head tilted to the side, maintaining his cool when you were all brought into the delivery room.

“Ready as I’ll ever be. Yourself?”

“Not even close.”

He laughed, sliding his hand into yours. “Let’s hope it gets better the longer it takes.

~*~

“So, what do you think?”

“Ten! Nine! Eight!”

“I think they’re perfect.”

“Seven! Six! Five!”

“I think so, too. They’re a little bigger than I thought, though. Even the nurses were surprised.”

“Four! Three! Two!”

“Well, loathe as I am to admit it, they are part Frost Giant.”

“Right. Oh, and Loki?”

“ONE!”

“Hm?”

“Happy New Year.”

You could practically hear the cheers resonating from the city only minutes away, Times Square completely flooded with people. Some were drunk, some were wasted, others were Tony Stark flying around the huge ball drop with Vision chasing after him to bring him back down.

You watched the scene on a TV in the corner of the room, though you were much more focused on the little ones in yours and Loki’s arms. Loki seemed particularly smitten with his newborn son, who he was given the honor of naming.

“Astor,” He said, as if it were meant to be. “It’s a strong name. When I was younger...my mother used to tell me that was what she had wanted to name me. I did not think it would suit me, but it fits him perfectly.”

“It’s a strong name. I’m sure he’ll take after you.” You smiled tiredly, leaning back against the pillows and bringing your bundled up daughter closer to your chest. “I think he likes you, already.”

“He’ll be conquering worlds in no time.” Loki grinned, almost to himself, “He’ll become twice the ruler I could ever hope to be. In fact, I’m sure Midgard will be his first realm. Won’t it, my little warrior?”

“I’m pretty sure realm-conquering falls into the havoc category. And you know what we talked about this afternoon.”

Loki sighed. “No wreaking havoc, I know. I’ll simply teach him to rule with an iron fist. Or perhaps, how to control minds on a global scale. Although that could require an Infinity Stone…”

“Do I need to call Fury?”

“He’s already watching me.” Loki chuckled, coming to the bedside. He carefully leaned onto the bed beside you, casting a fond glance onto his daughter. “I’m sure these two will help distract him from me, though. Freja, in particular. She’s going to be full of energy.”

“And you can tell because?”

“She shrieked so loud when she came out the doctors ran off.”

“That’s because they were blue when they came out.” You pinched the bridge of your nose, knowing you’d probably never be admitted in this hospital, ever again. Although Fury would probably make sure nothing got out to the public. At least, you hoped he wouldn’t.

You didn’t want to be known as the Avengers who had blue babies.

CRASH

“DEAR GOD-”

“Oh, hey, (Name)!! I was wonderin’ where I was gonna end up.”

“Tony?!”

“Vizh shot me outta the sky...I think...maybe, I unno. S’kinda hard to see anything, there’s glass in the eye holes...is it gettin’ dark in here?”

Thud

“...Well.”

“I’ll call Pepper.”

“Perhaps we should consider teleporting out of here before the police come.”

“So long as we get out of here and the babies don’t wake up.”

“Excuse me, Mrs. Laufeyson? I’ve brought your- CAP BLESS AMERICA, IS THAT IRON MAN?!”

“Okay, let’s teleport.”

“Gladly.”

And this is how the Lokison children were born!
Blue, New Year's Day, and with an Iron Man crashing into the place.
I don't think Reader or Loki are ever going to catch a break with their children, honestly.
I really wanted to do a little origin story for the twins, and I wanted to highlight a later plot point
how Loki originally favored Astor more (because now he had a proper heir hehehehee)!

I hope you enjoyed reading!! And have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! ^^

I believe it is Frigga, not Freja. But it was a great story!
