“Daiki…” Your voice was soft, but firm as you could manage against the giant, deadly man currently standing beside you. In his hands was a very sleepy, completely unconscious baby snoozing on his chest. “Is there a reason why you’ve been glaring at literally every single boy in the park?”

Daiki’s face was void of anything but irritation, sitting beside you on a bench. You initially wanted to come out for some fresh air, and spend some of your husband’s little free time to be with him. Of course he acted like he could care less, but that immediately changed when he realized there were a lot of boys in the park.

We’re not talking teenagers or adults, oh no; we mean full-on 18-month to two-year-olds.

“They’re all a bunch of walking hormones.” He glowered, adjusting his hold on the baby. “Momoka’s in danger just sitting nearby them. If I look away for even a second, they’re going after her.”

“What happened to being the careless, chill dad you always said you’d be? You said the chance of being an overreacting, overprotective dad were lower than Kuroko beating you one-on-one.” You pointed out, an infuriatingly teasing grin on your lips. “You’re freaking out over a bunch of kids that don’t even know who Momo is.”

He sucked his teeth. “They look at her and they’ll come at her without a second thought. Look at them...disgusting little rats. They’re going to be all over Momo if I let my guard down for even a second.” He added, wrapping his arms around her tighter.

You watched the lazy little girl with a smile; she seemed unfazed by her father’s nature, instead snuggling closer to his chest.

“You know, I wouldn’t have so much of a problem with it if you didn’t look so annoyed about it.” You mentioned, and he quirked an eyebrow. “You’re scaring the kids and the parents.”

Daiki grunted, completely ignorant to the concerned parents comforting sobbing boys around the park. You sighed at the obvious trouble he was causing.

“They should have considered the danger of bringing them to the park, then.”

“The only danger here is a lawsuit for causing discomfort and mental anguish.” You pointed out. He rolled his eyes.

“As if they’re gonna sue me for keeping my daughter safe.”

“From a bunch of boys who don’t even know what a girl is?”

“Can never be too careful.” Daiki’s reasoning made you stare in disbelief. His hands were tightly secured around her body, the chance of separating them slim to none. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only problem; your gaze fell on a particular waddler coming closer to the bench. And then, an idea struck.

“Say, Daiki? What if the problem wasn’t that boys were trying to take her away?” You mused, and Daiki glanced at you with the why-would-you-even-bring-something-like-that-up-you-weirdo look. “I mean, what if they weren’t trying to take her when you weren’t looking. What if they got up in your face and tried to?”

“Then I’d drop kick them back to their parents and sue them for assault on my-”

“-Ah!!”

Daiki literally froze when he heard a tiny voice chirp. Looking down, there was a baby. Not just any baby, it was-

“Taiki! What are you doing over here?” You grinned, scooping up Kuroko’s son. He smiled brightly when he saw how happy you were to see him, giggling when you kissed his nose. “Where are your parents?”

“Somewhere around here, probably.” Daiki held up his phone, “Didn’t you text him to join us, or something?”

“I did, but I thought for sure they’d all be coming, not just Tai-chan. What are you doing over here, little man?” You asked him again. Taiki laughed, grasping your hair and waving his hand around. Daiki watched him warily, bringing Momoka closer to his chest (if that was even physically possible).

“Ahmmmuhm.” Taiki replied (or so you thought), and turned his attention to the darling young girl Daiki currently clutched. “Ah?? Uh!”

Momoka stirred when she heard the strange new baby voice, as if he was calling out to her. Her nose scrunched and she wiggled, looking tiredly at her baby buddy.

“....Mmuh?”

“Aw, look at that. She’s saying hello!” You smiled, watching the exchange with a lot more interest than Daiki. He seemed rather disgusted by it, if you were being honest. “Aren’t they precious? They’re going to be the best of friends.”

“I’d rather get hit by a truck than let him come anywhere near her.” He glared at the little boy, who was currently trying to reach out and touch his daughter. “Watch the hands, you little punk!”

“I imagine if this was a boy, you wouldn’t be half as protective.” You mused, and Daiki didn’t respond. Instead he shifted away from Taiki, who was amused by this game of trying to touch Momoka. “Look at you! He’s not gonna hurt her, or anything.”

“You don’t know that. Hey!! Hands to yourself, punk!” Daiki lifted Momoka up as high as he could, which confused one baby and had the other bursting out laughing. Momo’s brow furrowed, wondering how in the world she had gotten that high up.

“Daiki, be careful! If you drop her we’re going to have some serious issues.” You warned, helping Taiki stand as if he could reach her with a few extra inches off your lap. Daiki growled, holding Momoka up even higher than before.

“Yeah, right! Get rid of that kid first, then I’ll consider it.” He snapped at you, “Momoka’s protection comes first!”

“And you said you weren’t going to be an overprotective dad.” You muttered again, and slowly conceded defeat. “Come on, Taiki. Momoka’s Papa is being a giant jerk and won’t let you play-”

“-Who’re you calling a jerk?”

“-So let’s go play over there, in the grass.” You decided with a huff, lifting the boy into your arms and marching away from the bench. Daiki wanted to protest, but you weren’t having it. “It’s one thing to be a protective dad, Daiki. It’s another to be a totally overreacting nutjob.”

“...Who even calls people ‘nutjobs’ anymore?” Daiki grumbled to himself, returning Momoka to his chest. He watched you play with the little Kuroko half-heartedly, knowing you were probably miffed with him considering the fact your back was facing him. “Try to keep your daughter safe and this is what happens. Why do people have to be so annoying, Momo?”

“Hmmm…” Momoka was watching the exchange as well, her gaze transfixed on the little white-haired boy currently playing with her mother. “Mama…?”

“She abandoned us.” Daiki grumbled, turning Momoka to face him. “Guess that means it’s just you and me.”

“Ah-ah!!” She suddenly pouted, looking genuinely offended that her mother was off playing with another baby. She wiggled around in his arms, trying to turn back around.

“What’s your problem, huh?” He lifted her up, eye level as if it could decipher the code she was using. Momoka looked at him, and it nearly broke his heart into tiny pieces; there were tears in her eyes.

“Mama.” She sniffled, looking positively crushed and on the brink of a full-on breakdown if she didn’t get to be with you. As if on cue (and to make things worse), you turned around, waving at your daughter who wanted nothing more than to play with you.

“You can’t go over there, Momo. If that boy gets too close then we’re both going to have some serious issues.”

“Mama!” She was abstinent. Daiki sighed, and he glared down his daughter with zero intention of letting her go. “Mamaaaa!”

“No, Momoka.”

“Mama!!”

“No-”

“-Ammaa!”

“Will you quit yelling, already?” He snapped, and set her on the ground with a grumpy look all his own. She blinked, surprised by the sudden change of scenery, but Daiki didn’t care. “If you want to go play with her, go for it. Just don’t complain when I don’t take you to the park again!”

His threat fell on deaf little ears when he realized that she had already crawled halfway to wear you were sitting. As if Daiki wasn’t already in a bad mood.

A mood that you noticed when Momoka struggled into your lap, plopping down happily between you and Taiki. Your eyebrows rose when your daughter arrived, her face happy and chubby as ever.

“What a surprise, Momo! Where in the world did you come from?” You asked her, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Taiki happily stood with you both, already initiating the baby babble between him and Momoka. You would’ve watched their engaging conversation with plenty of amusement, but looking up you caught sight of Daiki’s grumpy, irritated and somewhat depressed position on the bench.

“Mama?”

“Uh-oh. Looks like you made Papa upset, Momoka.” You grinned, lifting her from your lap and settling her in the grass with Taiki. “You stay here with Taiki, okay? I’m gonna go help your poor father.”

Of course she couldn’t care less when you left, enamored with her friend as you carefully returned to your husband. Said husband didn’t even look at you, bristling more when you came to sit next to him.

“Looks like Momoka had her way with you.”

“Shut up.”

You chuckled when he snapped, leaning against his shoulder and slipping a hand from his crossed arms. “You know there’s no harm in letting her play with Taiki, right? They’re just babies. They’ll probably forget about all this happening in twelve minutes, tops.”

“I don’t care. She’s too young to be hanging around boys, anyway. Especially not Tetsu’s troublesome little brat.”

“And how old will she be before she’s allowed to ‘hang around’ boys, exactly?”

“...Forty-five.”

“Dear God.” You laughed out loud, leaning up and pecking Daiki’s cheek when he glared at you. “You’re totally the overprotective dad! You’re too cute, Daiki. Ohh, just wait until Momoi hears about this.”

“S-shut up. I’m just trying to keep my kid safe, that’s all. And keeping her from a bunch of annoying little brats is the best way to do it.”

“I’m just saying, you should save that kind of protection for when she’s in high school, maybe.” You reasoned with him, “For now, just let her be a baby playing with her baby bros. Then you can still be chill dad and save the overprotectiveness for when it matters, alright?”

“It’s always gonna matter.” He grumbled, but he knew better than to try and pick a fight with you on this one. You smiled at him sweetly, capturing his lips in a chaste kiss.

“I appreciate your dedication.” You laughed yet again, “But for now, just focus on her being a baby. It’s not like anything’s going to happen to her.”

“Famous last words.”

“Honestly, Daiki.” You flicked his forehead, “She’ll be totally fine, I promise.” You assured him, watching as she babbled away with Taiki only a few meters away. Daiki’s hard muscles slowly relaxed, watching over the innocent scene just as you did. Long fingers softly intertwined with yours, his gaze silently calming.

“...Promise, huh?”

“One hundred percent guarantee. She’ll be just fine.”

“...Ah, Aomine-kun. I was wondering where you two were.”

“Tetsu?? It’s about time you showed up! We thought you just abandoned Taiki in the park.”

“Not exactly, (Name). I brought him here, but I just...well, I seem to have lost sight of him.”

“...What?”

“He was here with me a moment ago, but ever since he learned how to walk, Taiki’s been slipping away from me more and more.”

“Are you serious?? The Phantom Man losing the Phantom Son! Get it together, Tetsu!!”

“Sorry. I saw him over with Momoka, though, so I wasn’t too worried. He tends to find her pretty easily whenever he wanders.”

Daiki grew particularly interested in the conversation, at this point. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well, whenever Taiki and Momoka get together, he barely ever leaves her alone. He just kind of sticks to her, like he’s magnetized to her, or something. It’s kind of funny when you think about i-”

“-THAT’S IT!! MOMO, GET AWAY FROM THAT TINY HORMONE!”

“Come again??”

“HE’S TRYING TO TOUCH HER HAND! TETSU, GET YOUR LITTLE BRAT AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER BEFORE I KICK HIM ACROSS THE PARK!”

“Wait a second, what?!”

“Don’t question him, Tetsu!! He’s being serious!!”

“Aomine-kun, please wait-!!”
